Default Chewbacca Noise?

Hey folks,

03 Disco V8 4.6l 152,000Km 'Lily'

What the *&%$ is with the Chewbacca sounding noise when turning the wheel when first taking off, goes away and doesn't make noise when driving normally? Only when starting off an sometimes parallel parking.

Thoughts? I like Star Wars and all, but this is a bit concerning.

Cheers

Steering pump groaning.
You can check your power steering fluid level or flush it with new fluid to see if the groaning goes away.
There is a great Discovery forum sticky by an amazing forum member that shows how to flush the fluid.

Sometimes using a thinner fluid like dex6 will also help.

I've been on a lot of automotive forums and that's the best noise reference I've ever heard thus far.

haha... thanks for the laugh I recall the first time my steering pump made that noise. I was at a friend's house in the middle of a cherry orchard - there were lots of people around as she had just finished having a sale in her barn. I started the Rover up and OMG... scared the *%^& out of me lol. Everyone turned and looked and said 'what in the heck was that?!?'

Definitely keep an eye on your level as I had a leak and it only got worse. Another forum member rebuilt mine six years ago but if you leave it too long it will still make noise (just not as loud). I'm used to it now
