cigarette lighter
i have a 96 disco and the cigarette lighter heats up but i cant seem to power anything threw it. I have it out and checked the wireing, somone had previosly visited and it wasnt set up right so i put it back and as it was out tryed a spot light charger in it, but nothing. haveing a side view of the inside i noticed the charger didn't come deep enough due to the length of the tip. i was wondering if any has had simallar problems or anything. I'm about to change out the lighter for one from the store.
In my D2 there have been issues getting plugs to make good connections. It seems the hole is either to too wide or my plugs aren't long enough. It's not an issue anymore since my gps and iPod were stolen. What actually worked best was the Y adapter purchased from Radio Shack so both devices could get power at the same time. When the gps gets replaced the plan is to wire it to the ignition instead using the adapter. I agree with Spike, try some other plugs. I don't know about the rear of the D1, but the D2 has an extra adapter in the cargo area that seemed to fit everything just fine but wasn't pratical to use. You could try a swap if it's there.
DI's dont have the extra power outlet in the cargo area.
But I just thought of something, LR's have a "cigar lighter" not a cigarette lighter so the heater element is bigger so the plug is bigger and American sized 12v plugs dont fit as well. After all the trk is made in the UK.
I have a TomTom GPS which is a European brand and my plug fits just fine, but if I plug it into my moms Ford it is a tight fit into her cigarette lighter.
So it may not be your outlet, just your, um,plug is to small.
