CKP - Replace Before Failure
My 2004 Disco is a daily driver. I put 50 miles a day on it going to and from work. I have some flexibility in my schedule but generally speaking, I need to have a vehicle I can count on to start up and run every morning. I got just about all the bugs worked out so I am trying to think about what I can do to be a bit proactive. I have read the CKP can fail without warning leaving you stranded. Does it make sense to proactively replace the CKP to head off a imminent failure?

Thanks guys. I should have replaced mine when I rebuilt the engine but I didn’t. I think I’d much rather replace it in my garage than on the trail so I will go ahead and swap it out.
And then keep the old one as a spare ...
Check out this thread from a year ago for a discussion of CKPS failure. It's not definitive but it's a good discussion, I think.

i had one fail and leave me stranded. seems like a good idea to replace at $75 or so for the part.
My starter died while i was getting gas with 152k on the odo. original starter.
i also had a fuel pump die on me on a hot day at about 145k miles.
