See the attached pic, how did all this stuff get in there?

check your plenum filter. probably needs replacing.

How difficlut was it to get to it and remove/clean?

Plenum filter? lol I never had one! I broker my plastic plenum stuff all to **** when doing headgaskets. First I need that.

But yeah the intake for that is on the passenger side below your wipers

Pretty easy, took about 45 mins - used this as a guide. Just need a T20 torx bit for your screw driver. Just remember the blue plug unplugs away from you.

The reason the leaves get in is failure of the filter that spans the air intake just under, and entirely across, the hood.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get a cut to fit filter (blue material, about an inch thick). Cutstrips, strips (I don't remember precise width of cut but it will be obvious), use some pliers to work off the retainers, and put the strips in. Replace the clips. No more leaves.

One cut to fit filter is enough to do about 10 land rovers. Costs about 8 bucks.
