I just found that the TB cleaning procedure has been changed, now with explicit instructions on taking care not to spray the cleaner down the intake and no mention of using the whole can.

Better late than never. Engines and dollars will be saved.

I just wish someone would have made sure the instructions were right in the first place.

How long does it take to empty an entire can of TB cleaner into an intake? I always just spray mine for a couple seconds and wipe it out with a paper towel. If you ever do inject a liquid directly into your cylinders (with the engine not running) you need to crank the engine by hand to get rid of the liquid before starting the engine. Use common sense I think is the moral of the story.

When I said "dont be cheap, use the whole can" did I say to spray the whole can into the intake?
No.
Spray the whole can on whatever is dirty, if you just stand there and empty the whole can into the intake then you are a idiot.
By the time a normal person cleans the outside of the t-body and then gets to the inside there should only be maybe half a can left.
I guess I should have figured in the idiot factor to huh?

Mike I didn't do that write-up, Spike did. But I went ahead and deleted unrelated posts on the thread and added to Spike's own to better clarify the procedure.

I will also add in the How to' and Write-up sections that one must ...

READ THE ENTIRE THREAD BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE REPAIR/FIX SO AS TO FIND OUT THE RESULTS OF THOSE WHO HAVE DONE IT.

personally I have NEVER EVER used an entire can, and NOT all at ONCE. SO if your t-body is that bad.... do a little at a time.

Spray the t-body, run the engine. Spray the t-body, run the engine.

Thanks! I appreciate that! Am I an idiot for taking the instructions literally? I sprayed the whole can 12.5 oz on everything that was dirty, in & on the TB, & I ran into this problem. Never had to do this kind of cleaning before, as most of the engines I've maintained to this point weren't as poorly designed as this one.

Knowing how many DIIs there are out there that are on the verge of blowing anyway, I agree that this probably didn't blow DiscoWest's engine, it was likely about to go anyway. However, when I write a how-to, I consider that my reader is inexperienced in what he's about to read, otherwise, why would he read it?

I don't think inexperience & idiocy are the same things, but I guess I have a slightly biased opinion.

Well, when the thread is multiple pages of telling people how to update & do things on their computer, you tend to overlook some things, I guess.

Thanks for cleaning it up!

Sorry Josh, I should have looked closer, been running all day, need to slow down and enjoy all the Rover issues of others.
Thanks for looking into it.

Sounds like a *DISCLAIMER* in the "Threads/How To" might be in order???? Something like..."ATTEMPT AT YOUR OWN RISK"

I was not aiming that at you or anyone in particular.

Maybe I just need to go and delete all of my how to's and then everyone can just figure it out on their own.
