Default Clicking sound from steering wheel when turning

Dear D2 forum

There's a clicking/ratcheting sound coming from my steering wheel during turning. It's not coming from outside the car, definitely coming from the inside of the car from the steering wheel column. I've removed the three screws holding the two pieces of plastic covering the steering wheel and visually can't identify root cause of the noise.

Has anyone encountered the same issue? Any suggestions?

Thanks as always

Al

Sounds like an issue with the rotary coupler. Is everything else working well that's associated with the steering wheel (ie. volume switch, cruise control, horn)? Was the wheel recently removed and/or replaced as the coupler could have been damaged if it was installed improperly when the wheel was replaced.

Yes, everything with the steering wheel is working. Volume switch, cruise control, and horn.

Yes the wheel was recently replaced.

BTW Paul, if it's this rotary coupler, can you send me a pic and how much for this part?

Well, it sounds like you may be fortunate enough to not have damaged the coupler but I would either remove the wheel and reinstall or get it back to whomever did the work and have them do it because something is not right with the installation.
