Default clunk coming from the front end

I have a clunk coming from the drivers side front wheel area I think....it happens on accel or braking or turning....just a single clunk as in taking up freeplay I suspect it's the joint (u joint) or whatever kind of joint it is between the front wheel drive and the solid axle. I haven't seen these discussed here. any thoughts?

I'd jack it up and forcefully rock tire, top to bottom, to see if there is play in the hub bearing
