Default clutch fan delete

Hello,

Since I ripped out half of the car for a torque converter repair, I decided to finally go ahead and install an electric fan. Does anyone know the throughput of the clutch fan (cfm) (I don't seem to be able to find this info anywhere)? I'd like to go with just one large fan. The most powerful one I can find pulls 3500cfm is that enough?

Thanks,

Miron

@miron There are a couple of threads on here about that, you will need to search. But if you are off-roading would suggest staying mechanical.

Also check your alternator the stock ones were pretty marginal - the 4.6 P38 one is better.

I saw these threads back in the day, but can't find them anymore. My "offroading" is pretty much limited to forest service roads and "easy" trails - need to make some friends with land cruisers to attempt anything more intense. Actually I'm mostly interested in switching because besides the 5 times a year i go somewhere off the beaten path, i drive mostly in the city and feel like the few horsepower more and few gallons of gas less would be great. Plus electric fan can run full blast when idling so seems a good choice for city driving.

I did upgrade the alternator long time ago.

Check my signature. Stock alt is perfectly adequate. I personally like stock fans out of Ford Windstar, Mustangs, Crown Vic's from the mid 90s. Big v8s with tiny grills mean they had to flow a lot, and you can get replacement motors readily available if one goes out. I've only ever replaced one. I convert all my vehicles to electric fan.

There was another someone posted I think within the last year that was also a really good option, but I can't remember it right now.

I modded these Flex-a-lite fans to fit. Just took a little trimming of the shroud. It covers the entire radiator and pulls a lot of air. They run at 4,600cfm. I also removed the electric aux fan in front. The Flex-a-lite fans have a wire that connects to the AC compressor and run at 60% when the compressor is on. They go to 100% at your set temp. These keep my LS swapped Disco cool even on 100+ degree days. I never see more than 204 even after coming off the highway. It typically runs right at 190 degrees.
