code 1176 & 1179
The pig has been running week for a while then tripped code 1176. cleared code and a week later code 1179. cleaned maf then started pinging under load. I think its the maf or o2 sensors though can't tell. Any one have any ideas on troubleshooting this one?
Thanks

Shouldn't try cleaning the MAF's, half the time they were fine to start with and failed after being cleaned. These are not MAF faults, but not knowing what sort of maintance you have given your "PIG", no telling what is wrong.
At your mileage, have you change your plug wires, how about the O2's? Have you check for a vaccum leak, hoses or seals?

Car history- New plugs and wires. O2 sensors were replaced about 30k ago. I cant find any vacume leaks and cruse controll works fine. I've been told I have a lifter going bad. Cylinder 6 has 130psi, 4 has 160 and rest have 180. Everything else is good.
I hope this helps or its $$$$ time.

Give this a read:

I had a P1179 code on my '79 disco a while back. Check the O2 sensor(s) output, plugs, and compression. All were fine. I cleaned my MAF sensor (suggestion from another BB) and the problem is gone. If you have a bad valve (or lifter), that's probably the issue.

I was having a strange issue with pulling a p1179 and a p1171 both of which refer to MAX NEGATIVE AMFR etc... Since I bought the dico at 75k and had a new engine installed at 85kwith all accessories I pretty much knew it wasnt anything like a MAF sensor gone bad. Following advice from Discomike (Had the plesure of talking to him, what a wealth of knowledge) I replaced my O2 sensors -needed to be done anyways- and gained a little more performance and MPG--but three days and 60 miles later p1179 was back on. I decided to doa SEAFOAM treatment on it through the intake just to clear it out and low and behold, I had an exhaust leak that I would have never found had I not seen the smoke from the seafoam coming out of the gasket from the manifold to downpipe. Ordered the part from Britishpacific for 3.25 and installed it. So far no more light, but im holding my breath as Ive only driven it for 45 miles.
Dave,
spend a few minues under the hood checking for vaccumn leaks especially at the hose from the V/C to the manifold and when the engine is cold, consider spraying carb cleaner all around the intake manifold. If you get a sure in RPM's then you may have found your problem.
