Default Code Reader

Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a code reader,
my local LR shop charges 100.00 just to read codes.
Is there a favorite economical version? Preferably
a handheld.

What codes are you getting read? If they are ABS related you have to go to the dealer or an indy shop. If it's for the SES light you can buy an OBDII reader for under $100.

Well my last trip to the dealer was a SES code.
I'm just thinking it would be a handy tool to have,
if only to verify the diagnosis before taking it in.
There seems to be a lot of readers out there, even
at Walmart.

There are a ton of scanner on the market for under $100, try and find one that will allow you to clear codes once a repair has been made.

I got one on ebay for $50 I think. Whatever you do, spend the extra money and get one that reads the description of the fault on the display. Crossreferencing codes to a book is so 1980's......

I just bought one at harbor freight for $39 on sale. Usually $79! It works great and has a TON of info! It is item # 94169, you can find it on their site as well.
