If you are careful there shouldn't be an issue. But if it gets damaged at all then you may want to replace it. The upper and lower intake manifold gaskets will cause misfire codes to appear if not in good shape.

 

The gasket is about $10 at rovahfarm if you decide to replace it.

 

I am really interested in this coil pack relocation kit you speak of.

I've tried the search function and can't find it. It's in here somewhere. I just haven't been able to figure out the right words to make it appear in a search.

 

do a google search for images: it is the basically the same as the ford dual coil relocation kit. moves the coils to behind the ac compressor iirc

 

I can't remember the name of the company but, they sell all of the waterproofing connectors and such for our trucks...if anyone knows the name, I think they have a coil relocation kit. If you can find the kit drowssap mentions though , it would probably be less expensive.

And as far as removing the upper intake or not to get to the wires, I have SAI and have attacked it both ways.... and with the hassle involved in removing all of the SAI junk on the firewall, it's just as easy to remove the upper....for me.

I did replace one magnacore wire once, that the terminal pulled off of, without removing anything but, I left plenty of skin behind by the time it was all done and I made up a tool (long bent screwdriver) to get it seated into the coil... that helped alot.
That was one of days when you go out to do a 15 minute job and 2 hours later with skinned knuckles, bruised ribs from laying in there, and a headache you're wondering why you didn't just take it all apart and do it the hard way to start with.

That's kind of funny that it is relocated on a GEMS motor, as it's the Bosch motor that is a hassle for the coil pack!
