Default Complete Power Steering Rebuild! New Steering Box or Remanufactured Steering Box.

Replacing all hoses, reservoirs, pump, and box.

Any recommendations for the Steering Box, I do not want to spend $1500 on a new one, but don't want to take the chances on a used one and leak after I spend all of the labor on it.

Maybe get a used one, then replace the input and output shaft seals. I saw partial seal kits available.

You can take a chance on a used one, or take a chance with a refurb as they are sometimes hit or miss it seems. Basically only options if you don't wanna spend the money on a new one.

I got lucky with a used one I got off ebay. My original was absolutely trashed.

I'll also add, if you're replacing the power steering pump as well, make sure you buy a pump from reputable source or an oem one. A lot bad cheap ones going around still. I got one and the rear plate was machined incorrectly and caused the internals to eat themselves up after install because so much pressure was being applied from back plate tolerances being off. Ended up putting my stocker back on for now with some sealant on the old gasket as a quick fix because I needed it back on the road quick at the time, but I have a Cardone reman waiting for me to install and it seems much better quality with no binding when spun.

I got a refurbed one from Rockauto. Installed it and it leaked, Had to get a second one under warranty and it seems to work now. The rebuilds at Autohausz seem reasonably priced but I have no experience with that part.

I know this may not work for everyone (or maybe if they ship), but I did an exchange for a rebuilt box at a place called Straight Line Steering in San Jose, CA - (408) 289-9850

Under $500

Seems to be working just fine with new lines and pump.
