Default confused on engine size

I am considering the purchase of a 2003 Discovery SE from a Japanese dealer. They list the engine size as 3900 cc. Everything I have read about this truck says this vehicle comes with a 4.6L V8. Shouldn't that mean the engine is 4600cc?

Pretty sure its just a different crank that increases the displacement while everything else is the same, so a 2003 should have a 4.6L in it.

D2 had two different engine capacities, "4" liter and 4.6" liter, same block, longer stoke for piston. Should say 4.0 or 4.6 in big casting on top of engine.

From shop manual:

Bore 94.00 mm (3.70 in)

Stroke:
4.0 litre 71.04 mm (2.80 in)
4.6 litre 81.92 mm (3.22 in)

Capacity:

4.0 litre 3950 cm3 (241 in3)
4.6 litre 4554 cm3 (278 in3)

Might want to look at that vehicles owners manual because they do use different size engines in Japan, I believe.

Just saw that in the RAVE:

Maximum power - 4.0 litre:
⇒ Low compression ratio 132 kW (177 bhp) at 4750 rev/min
⇒ High compression ratio - UK/Japan/ROW 136 kW (182 bhp) at 4750 rev/min
⇒ High compression ratio - NAS 140 kW (187 bhp) at 4750 rev/min

Maximum power - 4.6 litre 162 kW (217 bhp) at 4750 rev/min

So it would appear that a 4.0 was for Japan, 5 hp less that NAS version.

Thats weird. JDM engines usually have a little more than we do.
