Default Considering Parting Out A 2003 Discovery S

I have silver 2003 Discovery S as my second vehicle. The Discovery has 71,000 miles. It recently sustained front-end damage. Nothing structural, but the bumper, bumper end cap, one of the headlamps, etc. requires replacement. The bill for all of this will come out to about $2,000. I did not have comp / collision coverage on the car as I used it quite infrequently. In addition, the car needs about $1,000 in maintenance. New tires, brakes, etc.

I have no interest in repairing the car. I have seen the same year / model sell for as little as $7,000 with similar mileage in good condition. So I figure, in its current state it is technically worth $4,000 or so. Obviously, a buyer would offer less since he has to invest the time / effort into fixing it up. Understood.

This leads me to my question. How much could I expect to get for the car (total) if I part it out?

The engine and transmission are fine. All body panels / doors are fine. Except for the driver's seat (which has a little tear), all the seats are fine. AC works fine, etc. The only unavailable parts would be the front bumper and one of the headlights as I mentioned above.

If you take the time to part it out you are looking at $10,000 easy.
But keep in mind that it will take you years to part out the whole thing.
Rims and tires will go quick, engine, trans etc. should also go pretty quick.
If you are really set on parting it out plan on having that thing sit in your driveway for a long time.
Once it is stripped you will have to haul the body frame and the chassis frame to the scrap yard.
The doors, hood if its any good still, and spare tire and carrier will all be gone.
I would sell the doors whole, meaning dont open them up and sell the door lock actuators or the window regulators separate, they are hot items but nobody is going to want to buy just a empty door.

How much should I expect the motor to fetch if I part it out? What is the best venue to sell the motor? I don't see any successful sales of Discovery motor's in the completed items section of Ebay.

Sell the engine, trans, t-case each separately but as a whole.

"For sale-2003 Land Rover Discovery engine. 4.6L with 71,000 miles, can hear it run"
Or take a pic of the odometer for proof of the mileage.
I would say the engine should fetch $2500, trans $1500, t-case $1000.
There is a guy on here who just bought a 2000 with a bad tranny, he needs a front driveshaft and a trans.
I will post his screename on here in a few min for you, send him a PM.
www.car-part.com, go there and you can look up what parts are going for.
Your front drivesahft will be in the $40-50 range.

This guy needs the trans and front driveshaft.
Part from any DII will fit any other year DII.
