convert OE tow harness connection to a flat five? (surge brake trailer)
so I bought the harness for my '03 D2 that uses the factory plugs behind the passenger side taillight for tow wiring.
the only connection I've found that uses this kit tho, is a flat 4, yet my new boat trailer uses a flat 5 for the surge brakes.
my question is, can I wire this harness in a custom fashion, directly to a flat five connector? has anyone done this?
I know I can use this as intended and set-up the flat 4 plug and then convert that to flat 5, but I'd rather have a nice, direct harness made for what I actually need.
this is what I have. (along with the male socket that turns to a flat 4)

You need to get a 4 way to 5 way adapter and wire the 5th pin to the reverse lights.

The kit you have has a 12N plug. Here are the pins for a 12N plug: Left Turn Signal, +12V, Ground, Right Turn Signal, Tail lights (right side), Stop lights, Tail lamps (left side).
For a 5 Pin plug you need a reverse light signal. The 12N does not provide this.

understood...but as pictured, the socket is unwired.
I can change what pin, does what, and wire a customer male 7-pin socket the same way to a 5 flat.
this requires a bit of custom wiring and thinking outside of the box...I was checking to see if someone's done it.
