I pulled into a gas station because the temp was reading hot. i wait in the truck turn it off and BOOM.. or SPISSSHH a lot of steam came out from the hood. The pavement, when i got out, looked like a psychedelic swirl of shiny neon green liquid. i popped the hood and an ungodly stench of toxic vapor swaddled my face. So i then added water because i always carry it around. After fifteen min. A Dodge 24 valve flat bed pulled up and the driver asked me what was wrong, (because i was sitting on the curb with buckskin gloves on and my face smeared with oil(i had oil on my face because i was trying to figure out where the leak was coming from)). I told him i had a leak as he proceeded to walk into the adjacent burger king. So i am asking is it safe to drive to my mechanic, in the state that the vehicle is in?

are you sure its green coolant.. are you sure you have a D2? no i wouldnt drive it anywhere unless you plan on junking the truck at the end of this trip. the steam could be the coolant just hitting the exhaust on the way down to the pavement. you need to pop the hood and check out what is going on. is there any coolant left in the resovoir before you added water?

Thanks. I am definitely sure it was a hose that broke somewhere. Still haven't had the time to locate the leak (longweekend). I had it towed, and I'm sure it is a Discovery II, yeah. I just hope its not due to pressure build up because a bad head gasket.. is that possible?

well at 131k your head gaskets should be on their way out. along with some hoses from dry rot. have your mechanic do a pressure test to be sure your HG's are shot. Then get the kit from AB with new head bolts and a new thermostat. I would try to figure out who or why you have green coolant in a D2. unless it was properly flushed of dexcool that could be a problem.

Check all the hoses first, including the throttle body heater. Always trouble shoot the cheaper accessible parts before you jump into head gaskets and stuff like that. It sounds more like a broken hose.
