Default Coolant bleeding... why am I getting a geyser out of the bleed hole?

I'm following the bleeding procedure out of the RAVE and when I undo the bleed screw, a freakin geyser rushes out of the bleed hole and basically continues until the expansion tank is drained. Is this normal?

Yes flow out of the bleeder screw is normal if you lift the expansion tank, and remove the cap. It is basically a straight line flow to there.

If you have coolant and are just trying to get rid of air it is easier :
  1. 1st thing in the am or with cold engine
  2. Your Disco level or facing uphill
  3. Undo only the bleeder screw
  4. If you have fluid to the top you are fine
  5. If not add through the bleeder screw - slowly until it overflows
  6. Bleeder screw back in
  7. Check over the next few days

As above.

Either you are holding the overflow tank up and then opening the bleed screw, or you are doing this with a pressurized cooling system, which means you didn't wait until the engine is stone cold before doing the bleed.
