Coolant Leak, then no Coolant Leak? Any Logical Explaination?

2 hours labor charge for a 1 hour job?
Sounds about right.
It actually bills as a 1.1 hour job.

It wound up being about $150 for a pump that was in stock locally and about an hour to fix. Thanks for the guidance, all!

2002 Disco II, 122k.

I had this issue, it turned out to be a crack in the plastic 3-way joint between the heater hose and thermostat. When the engine got very hot, say 200F the crack would open up and spew out the coolant, but would then re-seal when the pressure went down, but the engine would overheat. I went 'round and 'round with this thing until finally I pulled the hoses off to check for splits and found this crack. When I tugged on it a little bit, it broke in two. My recommendation is to check hoses regularly and replace them at recommended intervals, which I think is about every 50K miles.

I replaced my water pump about 2 years ago, it's a pretty simple job. Took longer to remove the old gasket material from the engine side of the water pump than anything else.
