Default coolant level

Well i work 5 mins. from my house. When i get home and check my coolant level it is at the top, right up to the cap. It looks like its under a lot of pressure. And some times leaks from back of motor.I changed my thermostat and it still does it. But when i drive it for about an hour or so and check its fine..??? Is this normal???

Thanks...
Ryan

As long as you are not boiling over and the temp is normal, dont worry about it. You should never open the coolant resevoir when hot anyways.

Mine always stays right at the cap line.
A little drop is OK, if it gets any worse then you may need to look into it a little.

Its a rover, True if it isn't boiling over dont worry about it. And for the cooling system to work properly it has to be under pressure. One thing to try, is if it keeps raising in the expansion bottle is to bleed the cooling system, you might have a air pocket in the lines.

Sorry to break in, but I am curious as to what you did to bleed out the air. I think I may have a similar issue and would like to give this a try. Thank you.

Do you have a DI or a DII? The bleed procidure is different for each. Alittle more to it on a DII, but not much.

If your engine is leaking coolant from the back of the block, you better go see your mechanic and have it pressure tested, ASAP, may be a head gasket.
