Default Cooling issues

Hello everyone new member here, great forum by the way!
Ok so here's the deal, I have a 99' Disco 2 and recently had some issues with the hose that runs from the thermostat to the water pump. We were on our way home last weekend, and my wife noticed that the temp was higher than normal, so we stopped and I noticed we were low on coolant so I topped her off. About 2 mins. into the drive the temp shot up again and I saw smoke coming from the hood. So I told her to pull over and let the car cool for a couple of seconds before shutting it off and when I looked underneath the antifreeze was spraying out of the hose that connects to the water pump. I thought it would have been a good idea to replace the thermostat while we were at it so I ordered that and the hose. Yesterday I replaced both, topped her off with Dexcool, and started her up. This is the issue, the water never never flowed out of the resevoir. I was watching it for about 20 min with the car running and nothing! I knew something was wrong, especially since I had no heat coming out of the vents. When I checked the temp gauge. it was almost reaching the red! I shut it off and for about 10 mins. All I could hear was a "gurgling" sound coming from the resevoir I loosened the resevoir cap and all the antifreeze came rushing back into the tank. I have no idea why this happened and I am hoping that one of you guys can help me out. This is the only vehicle I have and I need to get it back on the road for work. Thanks in advance for any input.

BTW: It has 103,000 mi.

Do not drive it till we can talk. You are going to toast that engine.

Sounds like your water pump is toast and not moving fluid. Could also be something a little simpler like the thermostat stuck shut. Definitely talk to Mike and don't drive it until it's fixed. These engines don't react well to be overheated.
