Angry Cooling issues 95 Disco

Good morning all,

I am trying to get some idea of a problem that occurred yesterday. I have a 95 disco. The section of the return pipe from the heater core to the top of the engine blew out on me. It sprayed coolant all over the engine and made a giant mess of things. I have replaced the section of hose that failed but I am having overheating issue now. My Disco has only 95k but I just pulled out of storage after 4 years and drove it home without a problem. My concern is there's a bigger issue going on. I know that Discos have been been known to have cooling problems but I have being lucky not to be a victim up until today. My question is, how to trouble shoot if I have a blockage(back pressure caused the pipe to fail..),blown head gasket(fyi.. I haven't draining the oil yet there's a blizzard at the moment)...or a stuck thermostat( feel some heat from the upper hose return from radiatior. The temp gauge seems ok at a stop but goes for overheat at speed. After replacing the hose, I drove for a little bit, but saw the temp gauge go up. I don't want to damage/warp the heads because of the heat issue so it is parked at the moment. Any help would be great. I normally work on my truck but I have never run cooling issue before. Thanks.

Have you bled the coolant system yet? If you haven't, than that's why you're probably overheating...

bleed it properly... Do a search for the procedure. Just be careful with the bleed screw in the radiator.
