Cooling system help

Easy way to check heater core is to see if both hoses going through the firewall are the same temp. If one is significantly colder, it means blocked heater core.

If you have one of the old T-Stats, put it in pot of water with a thermostat and watch to see if it opens up when the water gets to 180 or 190.
Or...if you have an ultra gauge or code reader that allows you to see the coolant temp do this
1. Let truck idle for 10 minutes (or till truck is fully warmed up)
2. Check the current coolant temp
3. turn off the cabin heater unit
4. rev engine to 3k rpm and hold for 1 minute
5. check the new coolant temp, if it did not go down the T-Stat is bad. If it did go down tell me how much

Holllllyy I think I got it thanks to that drawing above
the little hose off top of rad to expansion tank
well someone put a bigger hose about 2 feet to long was half way down the rad creating a huge trap
lifted it up now getting 201 f city driving with Atlantic b t stat
now let's see what the lucky 8 stat will do
off to parts store to get correct size vent hose
