Congrats! Try again after another round of bleeding, I bet you can get 10 degrees lower by using the bleed screw method over the next few mornings.

That's the plan.

I don't know who designed this cooling system, but if anyone lives near him/her, kick 'em for me.

Glad you got it working!

You can thank BMW for that headache. Trying to improve on something that wasn't broke in the first place. Why keep it simple, when you can make it complicated.

When I measured the exhaust manifold ports and they were two millimeters or more smaller than the heads ports I was a bit shocked that would be OK on a vehicle that cost north of 35k in ‘03. But the thermostat design is even worse.

a bit mad at myself for not doing the in-line, but I will get some time out of my new hoses before switching over.

The inline mod has it’s own ups and downs. More hose clamps, trim the shroud wrong or to much and loose airflow thru the radiator and the big old O-Ring can eventually crack & fail. Nothing is perfect, the OEM thermostat temp was the #1 issue not really the design.

The Buick 215 based V8 was never a performance engine, it was more of a work horse built V8 for off road use.
