Could I ruin my trans by towing it?
I'm getting a 2000 disco II in exchange for a debt, the head gasket is blown but the deal is, I buy the parts and the seller has a mechanic to fix it. Where it is presently parked is about 5 miles from the mechanic, can it be towed saftly there or I've heard that it can overheat a transmission if you go too fast? Could it be driven or will it warp heads? What would you experts recommend?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Are you sure that the truck is in running condition? After the head gasket has blown serious damage can be done if the truck overheats. I suggest you read up on how to do a headgasket job and pick up as many parts as you can. If I were you I would flatbed the truck. I wouldn’t recommend trying to drive it with a blown head gasket.

Could it be towed
I'm really not sure how it will go after the head gasket is fixed, the reason I mentioned I'm getting the rover in exchange for a debt is because I'm guessing that taking the rover is the only way I will get anything so I will be into the rover the cost of the head gasket and head bolts.
So will it hurt the rover to tow it? I have also heard that if it is towed slow (below 30) that I would be ok, is that true?
Thanks,

As long as the transfer cased is in neutral you can tow it just fine, this will remove the transmission from the equation.
And yes, if you tow a automatic transmission car with the drive wheels on the ground and the engine NOT running you will overheat the transmission because without the engine running there is no fluid being pumped through the transmission.
Typically you can tow this way at speeds upto 50mph for upto 1 hour with a 1 hour break to allow the trans to cool off.
However, if the engine is running and the trans is in neutral you can tow it as far/long as you want with no harm to the trans.
