Default couple PS pump rebuild questions

Hello,

It got pretty frosty here so I need to put off my engine knock work for warmer days and am rebuilding PS pump instead. Couple questions:

1. In order to remove the bearing from the shaft, do I need to remove the flange (opt1), or am I supposed to pull the bearing all the way down the shaft (opt2)?

2. bearing indicates to be grade C3 which seems to be "standard". I can't find the original SKF for a normal price but Timken seems to be available aplenty. It doesn't really say if it's C3 or something else - looks like that if it's not indicated it is "standard" tolerance. Does anyone know anything about bearing tolerances, or does it even matter?

Thank you,

Push the shaft out of the bearing and pump hub. Standard tolerance will be fine on the bearing, no need for high precision on a PS pump.

Yes opt 2.
I rebuilt my PS pump a while back. It went really well, but I remember there being a couple of very small parts that I didn’t realize were there and I was fortunate not to lose. Sorry, I don’t remember what they were, just a heads up to watch for small parts.

Extinct, you’re a very experienced LR mech. I’m wondering why you would remove the flange.

That's a long push down the shaft, more options for damage/going sideways. I usually go for the shortest push. BTW, the small part mentioned earlier is likely the drive key shaft that keys the rotor to the shaft, watch out for it as you remove the rotor.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I opted for the "take less apart" option and went down the shaft.

Cool, thank you for all the hints! Got all the part accounted for (so far). Need to complete this rebuild asap, b/c the pump in the car started squealing today
