RTV wil not work, the pump housing is under pressure and will push the silicone out. If you want to use a liquid sealant use Permatex Moto-seal and follow the instructions.

Would loctite high flex gasket maker work as well? Says it's good on pressurized equipment.

Also i was wrong, of course, the ring can go in two ways...

I don't recall specifically that product but if you want to post a pic or pn I can tell you if I tried it and if it will work or not. I can say almost nothing works except the motoseal and I am still testing it.

Here is the product:

for whatever unsubstantiated reason I trust Locticte more than Permatex.

I would not try that, you don't need high flex you need high strength/stiff. That pump gasket is under a lot of pressure and needs to resist pushing out.

sounds good, i'll experiment with motoseal. I also found a store that sells loose gaskets, so will be stocking those, since it looks like my rebuild is a total fail...

So i finally got the motoseal. Another question i have is how much should i torque the bolts? The guy on YouTube is going for 12 lbs/ft but clearly he is eyeballing. Is there a spec for this?

There is not a spec but I can tell you from experience if you overtighten it you will crack the rear cover. I would think only tighten it enough to get adequate gasket compression. I can't tell you how much because I have not measured it but similar to the inline thermostat kit I think around 20 ft lbs should be enough.

Yes, unfortunately the lessons we learn from experience are our best lessons.
