couple question
I just recently aquired a 98 Land Rover Discovery LE. I have a couple questions.
1. I had to diconnect the battery and now the stereo will not work. says "code". I have the card with code number. It says turn on ignition, turn on radio and wait for "code" to appear and type in the code and radio will work. I have done this according to the instructions all I get is a "beep" after the last number is entered. still does not work.
2. I get a "service engine" and a "antilock" trouble light. These issues have been corrected, however I have not figured out how to reset the codes.
Thanks a heep for any help.
(sorry I will post in the appropiate threads, I have not figured out how to delete this post)

YOu can borrow a scanner at your local Autozone Auto Parts Store. They are usually pretty easy to operate. It will take all of about 5 minutes. Good Luck. Phil
You are entering the stereo code wrong. If you still cannot get it go to Best Buy and ask them if they will help you, otherwise you will have to go to the dealer.
And to clear your check engine light you can do like ljdisco said, any autoparts store with a OBDII scanner can reset the light for you. They cannot do the ABS light, that is a seperate computer in your trk and requires a special scanner.

Hey, Petey.
1. I was in the same boat a couple of days ago - only the previous owner did not have the radio code.
I contacted landrover.com, and to my surprise they responded the same day. I had to fax them a copy of my driver license and insurance card with the VIN (need proof of ownership) and the serial number from the radio, and the next day they emailed a code to me. After unbutchering the wiring job from the previous owner, and resplicing wires, I finally got to slide the radio in place. After entering the newly aquired code, the radio came to life on the first try! Of course, there was still misc. speaker wires to reconnect, but it was a minor victory after limited success with some of the other issues I've been fighting.
When setting your radio code - my owners manual says if you have 3 unsuccessful tries, you have to let the radio sit for atleast an hour before attempting to enter them again. If the codes on the card continue to not work, try contacting landrover.com or a local dealer. I know when that problem on my Chevy Blazer, I drove it to the local dealership and they reset it for me no charge.
2. After several trips to AutoZone and Discount Auto to read and reset codes, I finally broke down and purchased a small handheld for about $82. With all the abuse this baby has seen, I figure I'll be getting my moneys worth.
Good luck!

With a 98, if it is the res service engine, and not the yellow check engine, you have to reset the emissions reminder.
The anti-lock light should clear it's self. If not, codes have to be read with a rover-compatible scanner. Find a small rover shop or the dealer. The dealer will not reset the light without doing the work, though.
