Anyone deleted the rain gutter trim? If so, how does it look without?

So it's cold as ***** in Denver right now, and in the process of pulling my SD rack off the other day I the trim cracked/broke a couple spots. Granted it was really cold. But it got me wondering if plastic is really a good thing to have in a fairly high-stress spot like that?

Anyone got any thoughts on this?
