I need to have the Crank ShaftSeal replaced on my 2001 Landrover Discovery II is this a item that can be replaced by a responsible general mechanic or is this a item that i should take to the dealer to have replaced.

I had a shop change mine. It cost $80. for labor. Get the seal at the dealer.

I have a 1999 Discovery I. I had quotes from $200 to $400. Found a very good Land Rover only independant shop that did it for $110, plus they did a complete evaluation of the truck. They also throw in a free oil change for new customers. The seal is about $14 as I recall. Phil
