I dont think the cap and rotor will throw a trouble code.
Make sure your vacuum advance hose is still connected to the dizzy, if it comes off or has a crack in it it will give you fits.

If the rotor is put on backwards (facing the wrong way) it will not run and will backfire.

If you can get ahold of a timing light you can check your ignition timing and get a better idea of what is going on.

I'm going to break out the timing light tomorrow but as for the vacuum adv line and rotor they're fitted correct and true. On mine the rotor cap can only go on one way due to the slot on the actual rotor shaft. Keep all the brainstorming coming guys!!!!! I'm really appreciating it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the dizzy hold down tight?

Others have had this same issue but of course nobody ever posts the fix.

I'm with spike on the timing light, also, if nothing on the dist. looks whacked, (you've checked the good stuff per rave cd) I might pull a valve cover & see if both valves #1 cyl.(between exh & int cycle) are closed when harmonic is @ or near tdc. (timing chain jumped?)
then check dist rotor angle again.

luck,greg

Is that a lucas rotor in there? If it doesn't have a yellow spot it wont run right.

yeah the dizzy cap is held down tight, flush and level with the dizzy housing. Would the pickup coil air gap prevent it from firing correctly in dizzy?

yeah i had a lucas rotor but I now have an aftermarket. I closely compared the lucas with aftermkt and found no obvious difference therefore used the aftermarket. I wasn't getting any response or backfire with the lucas but am with the aftermarket. Whats the significant diff between the 2?

trying to find a process to check codes but i've had the battery disconnected to charge on deep cycle and while checking fuses I pulled fuel injector fuse which resets the codes therefore the ecu prob will show only one code about recent battery disconnect and throughout my attempts to start it the CEL has not come on....will it still show diagnostic codes since it hasn't ran since the battery & fuse pull? what is the key turning process or what not & so forth? feel free to call me 334-449-0684
