Question Crankshaft timing gear has slight play.

I am replacing the timing chain and gears. The new crankshaft gear that was from atlantic british branded allMakes4x4 seemed bad and fit loosely on the crank with quite a bit of play. The old timing gear (i dont think the original) still has some play (in all axes), but less. Is this acceptable? It allows some slight cam movement independent of the crank. If I hold the gear in place, there is no cam movement. If this is bad, where can I get a good quality gear?
