cruise control
My 03' does the same thing. I posed the same question on here a few weeks back and DeepBlueWater (who also has an '03) gave me this response:
However, I haven't found myself on an uncongested freeway since to test it out.
As for the cruise control: Mine oscillates only for the first 20-40 seconds as the computer learns the road and then smoothes out perfectly.
There was a sort of recall on this...when the '03 got the bigger engine, the Discos were shipped out with the cruise ECU still programmed for the smaller engine so it didn't work correctly with the bigger 4.6 engine so the fix was to reprogram the cruise ECU at port fixing the problem. You should have a 'service campaign' label under your hood attached to the radiator support or in that area showing that the procedure was performed on you Disco. Mine has the label so it was supposedly fixed but mine still jerks. Mine works sort of like 'DeepBlueWater's '- It starts out nauseatingly rough then smooths out. There is also a TSB that describes a procedure to make sure that the cruise linkage is properly adjusted. My cruise isn't perfect, dealer suggested a vacuum leak in my cruise system but mine holds vacuum perfectly - so I just assume it is a rough system.
Hope this helps.
