Default Crunching noise in the back

Hey guys,
I just wanted to know if anyone knew what what would cause a crunching noise from the back of the truck while going over bumps in the cold. I have had it since I purchased the car about truck about years ago (1999 disco2) and it doesnt seem to cause any problems (more of an annoyance than anything). The truck is equipped with the ride height control and as I said it only happens in the cold (also it will go away after the truck heats up). Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Also, I know this is a stupid question but what type of coolant should I use in the truck. Is Dexcool for GM the preffered in these trucks? Thanks.

I'm still getting to know my '03 so I may be off. but does it sound like if could be coming from your rear shocks? My fiance's (sp?) truck was doing that, we gave it a really good wash and sprayed it off read good. It helped disipate the "crunching" sound. But we are getting close to having to replace her shocks so the crunching/compressing sound is starting to come back slowly.

Anyone agree/disagree??

get a wooden yard stick, put it up against your ear and place the other end on suspected areas while someone jumps up and down on the rear bumper. (assuming it will make the noise when doing this)
You can easily pinpoint the location of such a noise this way.

I've tried to locate the noise to no avail. The truck is clean as it rarely sees anything but blacktop (I'm thinking you mean that there might be mud/etc. caught up in there ugly). Like I said its really strange because it only happens when the car is relatively cold (I guess anything below 40F). However after about 10 minutes of driving the sound will go away. If i had to take a guess as to the problem I would think that the airbags of the rear suspension system become frozen but then eventually thaw out with the heat of the exhaust. But I'm only and amatuer so what do I know haha. I made this post hoping that I will get responses saying that its normal but I guess im not that lucky. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Just one more question about the Dexcool stuff. Here is my dilemma....... The stuff in the reservior is from the dealer and is pink, I have put prestone "green" coolant in from time to time (it says its compatible with all make/models), and the dexcool is orange. Is it ok to mix them?

It's not ok to mix them. Your going to want to flush your coolant system and replace with Dexcool since you own a D2.
