Lightbulb Cummins Diesel Repower Disco II

Good Afternoon,

I am just now starting to explore the idea of building my dream daily driver. I am interested in taking the soon available 4 cylinder Cummins R2.8 and putting it in a 2004 Disco II. Full transparency, this is way past my skill level so I will be relaying on a shop ( not yet determined ). Clearly this project has not started, I am posting looking for feedback I plan to find a very clean 2004 disco II. I am confident I can find one for sub 6K. The crate motor should be around 7k. Can anyone recommend a shop that would do well with a project like this? Location is not that important, I can get the motor and rover basically anywhere in the US. Simply focused on a high quality build. Any advise is appreciated!

Cheers!

Trailhead 4x4 might be able to help.

Are you going to bump the power some? I'm surprised at its advertised output, or lack thereof.

This is my plan as well. It's not going to be too hard a of a swap from everything I've seen. Engine mounts and engine to transmission adapter and exhaust are things that will need to be fabricated. Other than that I think the wiring will be a breeze.

The advertised output is about the same as the Rover V8, but in a more usable powerband than our trucks currently have. But you are right that a diesel of that size is capable of producing much more power.

True. Personally I a sub 350ft/lb power plant wouldn't even blip my radar for the effort and money Involved with a conversion. But if you can coax that kind of power out of the Cummins reliably and easily (which I'm confident you could do), then by all means hand me a beer and let's get to it lol.

I'm sure you can get those torque numbers out of that engine pretty easily. My plan is to do the diesel conversion and run the engine stock for a few months and then start adding power judiciously.
