I don't think wiring would be a "breeze" Getting the Cummins to run won't be a problem at all. But getting the BCM to play nice and not turn on every single light on the dash will be a nightmare.
Plus if you want your T/C A/C gauges to work. Transmission to shift you will need to figure that all out. Not to mention the secondary air system. Emissions testing etc.

If you can sort out all those problems to a factory functional truck with your diesel in place,I salute you.

The T/C shouldn't have a problem since it relies on the ABS sensors and RPM in order to do it's work. And I don't see what the A/C would have an issue with other than making sure it's mounted well and the lines are routed correctly.

The BCM is going to need to be replaced with one from a TD5 and have some programming work done. From what I've been able to gather the TD5 has a similar powerband to the R2.8 so the TD5 options should sort out the transmission shift points pretty well.

All things considered, I'm sure it will be an interesting experience.

Would probably be easier to run the tranny and engine on stand alone systems. Let the abs and body computers run on their own.

It's a lot of wiring no matter how you slice it, but its doable. If you think it out properly I imagine you can get rid of a lot of unnecessary factory redundancies and extra spaghetti.

FYI most of front range requires emissions testing - I do not know the specifics as I live out of the area. I also picked up a super clean 2004 HS with 89k miles - one owner, all records, wood grain steering wheel, heated windshield, dual sunroof, running boards, mudflaps - loaded and paid $7800 - trucks and SUVs have a greater demand in this area and sale for a bigger premium.

That's probably true. My plan is to get it in, running and driving. Then start working on each system.

They require emissions testing where I live too (SLC Utah), that's why the Cummins Repower is on my radar so heavily. If it weren't for the emissions issue I would have swapped in a 4BT six months ago and it would have been an easier conversion most likely.

The Cummins R2.8 is going to be a certified engine and will have all the instructions to make it comply with emissions.

Cummins are great engines but in all honesty I'd rather stick to my TD5 as it's designed for the D2 and also the Defender. The TD5 is very tuneable, not that I've ever bothered, but in all honesty, the more you tune any engine the less reliable and more stressed it becomes until, inevitably, it grenades like many race engines.

So would I for this application, unfortunately the TD5 was never certified for on road use in the USA, so importing one and putting it in a road going vehicle is illegal. Also since a conversion to diesel power in my state requires some hoops be jumped through before it can be done and has to be to an engine manufactured after your vehicle was.

The Cummins Repower program is long overdue in my opinion.

I really don't envy you guys in the emissions states. Every vehicle I own or have owned is a felony offender lol.
