These people are quite an authority on the LR V8 engines. It may have been posted before though.

I ask all these questions because Im still learning. I know its only a matter of time before my Rover V8 needs to be replaced and I dont want to wait until that happens to frak out and start asking questions. By then I would like to be prepared with the money and a wealth of information which I hope will help me make the decision on how to address it. Rebuild, replace, or use a different engine etc.

Unfortunately it was never certified for the USA and this is the #1 biggest issue every US Disco owner has to contend with all Discovery's. The dated OEM V8 Buick design is simply a plaqued piece of crap timebomb. Had the US have offered the TD5 we would not have so much to complain about on these forums except for diesel exhaust soot staining bumpers as well as the negative influence that the other manufacturers that purchased Landrover added and of course they all leak excessively! Jeeps probably would not have been as popular either. But it is what it is and a TopHat lined rebuild is as good as it is gonna get for everyone that eventually has to replace their V8, unless you can get a Shortblock Chevy or Ford crate motor and pass emissions.
