I looked for them when I bought the K&N, but couldn't find any. Recommendations? I'm willing to test the difference if it's relatively cheap.

I have run K&N for years and never had issues. People always say the oil messes with the MAF and it can but you are also supposed to clean the MAF overtime you change the air filter and a lot of people forget that part. So if you run a K&N when you clean it, you should also clean the MAF. If you do you will never have any problems.

I was thinking about that. I would run it back to the air box to avoid heat soak issues, but that's just me..

Default K&N and Oil problems?

I second SoundGuru. I have run K&N air filters in every fuel injected car I have had since 1979. (Yeah, the first one was mechanical injection.) I have never had any problems. Used one in my 04 Disco. Use one now in my 03. As long as you are sparing with the oil it shouldn't be an issue.
This thread has inspired me to install an AirForceOne Intake that I bought for the 04 Disco about 9 years ago and never installed. I have an 03 now.
As far as the rubbermaid air box. I saw an online buildup story on one for a GM or Ford truck. Guy used some sheets of adhesive backed insulating material on it if I remember. I will probably heat wrap my polished tubes. Amazon has all kinds of this stuff pretty cheap.

Yea, the rubbermaid air box is what I made. If you go back and click the link in my first post in the thread you can see it. It made no difference in power or intake temp, sadly.

I used a dry filter on another MAF equipped car with good results, it was from aFe. Looks like a lot of options here aFe Pro-Dry S Air Filters - Best Price on Custom Pro-Dry S Air Filter by aFe

I agree oiled filters may be "overblown" as an issue but anything that can keep contamination off the MAF is worth looking at.

I ran a dryflow AEM on my rx-8 and it was awesome. It was pretty low to the ground behind the front bumper so it caught alot of trash. I sprayed it from the inside out quite a few times and it never seemed to wear out/thin.

Alex_M, Is your whole engine painted black or just your intake? I did a previous post on engine painting and black was the greatest at radiating heat. Also I think it looks really good on your engine.

I ran a set up like this for 3 years with no ill effect...but also you are crazy if you think you are noticing a HP response or fuel difference. you'd need probably 15 HP gain before you even noticed any difference through driving it. I was hopeful but nothing.

One great thing about this set up is during the winter you can finally get rid of that stupid throttle body heater plate since the air you are sucking in is from the engine bay and much hotter than outside. I only run this set up during winter since I pulled the heater plate. In the summer I'm snorkelled with the stock box and filter.

Regardless of everything I've said, I'm stoked to see people trying new things. Often on this forum people freak out if you even talk about doing something that isn't listed in the RAVE.

Speaking of which, usually I would have seen a bunch of people posting telling you your truck will spontaneously combust or disintegrate using that air filter...where are the haters?
