Default D1/D2 What fails more often? Engine or Auto tranny?

So i went to inspect a carcass of a 99 D1 that was advertised as a "mint, back up vehicle we no longer need" Needles to say "mint" is what this truck is not. more oxidized aluminum and rust than good metal is more like it. "ready for junkyard, good for aftermarket parts" is a good description.

Anyways talking to the owner i got a sense of the "I know everything about everything" and he mentioned to me that the transmissions fail way more often on D1/D2 than the engine blows a HG or slips a liner or something else costly....

Do you agree with that assessment? Because on kijiji/craigslist all i see is "blown HG, selling cheap" or "engine blown, selling cheap", never have i come across a transmission failure...

Transmissions are very good on these. They do go bad, but not nearly as often as headgaskets. On a D2 there are a bunch of transmission failures caused by the front driveshaft failing, punching a hole in the transmission case.

Yes, but thats not an actual transmission failure, driveline, yes, but not actual tranny.

You guys ever talked to someone so full of **** his eyes were brown?

In the end, i told my buddy, even if he accepted $1K for that truck, i wouldnt buy it just cuz hes an all-knowing *******.

All-knowing a-holes are one to many even on these forums!

If you look at the number of posts in a one month period, you'll find head gaskets and overheating at the top of the list, along with misfires. Tranny problems are way down the hill past the Three Amigos.
