Default Question on D2 Headliner Rear Passenger Vents

The 3 A/C vents located on the headliner for the rear passengers are falling out of their holes.

Each vent has two metal spring-type clips on one side and plastic clips on the other side. I found the plastic clips are broken and the vents were just held by some sort of asphalt-like clay stuff. What a crappy job by the previous owner!

Anyways does anyone here have the same problem? (I mean your rear vents are falling off the headliner) I guess I could buy new rear vents but I want to know if anyone here has suggestions for reinstalling the vents adequately?

Thank you

P.S. Oh yeah the center console on the rear passenger area also on the headliner is partially falling out too! Any suggestions for re-attaching that?

Al

My 1999 had about 100k on it and the rear vents were fine. My 2003 has more miles, but no rear a/c.

You may have to pull your headliner out to fix these problems. The rear console is held on by these really cheap nuts that are attached to posts on the back of the liner. If the post break then you can flip the nut upside down and use a small screw to re attach it to the plastic post. As for the rear vents those are held in by clips and those clips after years of use become fragile and break very easy. You may have to find some new ones from the classified section and replace them. However if you have a sag in your liner this may be a good time to pull it and paint or re fabric it, painting it is the cheapest way to go and you will never have the problem of a sagging liner ever again. Heres a link to the repair, its by far the best one on the forum and has helped many of us bring the interior of our trucks back to life. Hope this helps

Hi jhill15

Thank you very much. This is exactly what I needed!

My headliner isn't sagging yet, still acceptable in terms of looks and utility. I reattached my rear A/C vents to the headliner using the two original metal clips on the north side of the vent and 3M double sided tape on the south side. Hopefully it holds until the time comes to pull out the headliner.

I saved and subscribed to this thread and will definitely use it when the time comes.

Cheers
