Default D2 shutting off while driving

Truck is just shutting off while driving.
No trouble codes. No CEL
Give a few minutes & it can fire back up and continue on.

Has this happened to anyone ?

Possible Crank Position Sensor? The random shutdowns is what happened to me when my CPS started failing.

Those are the classic symptoms of a failed crankshaft position sensor (CKPS, or CPS). Plenty of how-tos on this and other forums. For me by far the most difficult part of the job was disconnecting and reconnecting the electrical connector. Removing and replacing the sensor itself is easy.

Sounds like this confirms my suspicion-

I was reading a thread where one would cool the sensor down and it would work - essentially stating that the heat would effect the sensor.

In my case I get this hiccup upon first mile of driving, where engine is relatively cool. So has me wondering if others had additional issues occurring around this symptom. I’ve got another CPS sensor in the truck with me. So I’ll be looking to change that when I get into the garage.

*on a side note- I recently was talking to a fellow d2 owner at a gas station. He had his mechanic cut a hole inside driver wheelwell and used a cpl self taping screws with a piece of sheet metal to make an “access door” for the CPS sensor. I laughed and thought that was pretty handy.

Cutting an access door?! I mean, yeah replacing the sensor takes some resolve but I can’t imagine it going bad so often as to cut a hole in the truck for periodic replacement!

One wouldn’t think so.
Ive changed mine 3 times in the past year or so. Can’t explain it. And my forearms simply do not wanna fit up there past exhaust to work the clip. Makes the idea of that door sound awfully attractive.

I changed it again last night in a parking lot on way home from the long weekend. I made sure part was Bosch. It actually sounds like it starts & runs much healthier - it’s very weird.

3 times? Wow, yeah an access door would sound appealing to me as well. Were the last few sensors Bosch sensors? I’ve read that D2’s can be real cranky (no pun intended) with non-OEM sensors. I bought mine knowing it needed a new CPS, I could tell it had been replaced at least once before (because the heat shield was missing!). I’m hoping that my install with a new heat shield will last a while.

Maybe I have tiny hands, but I don't find the CPS that hard to remove/install. I find it easier on lifted D2's as you have more room to reach up. Hardest part is the darn plug!!
