Default D2: Signal Light Not Working

Hi All:

This problem is very confusing to me. My right side rear signal light does not work except when I press the brakes and signal. The right front and side signal fine at all times but the rear only if I'm braking.

What is that!?! Man, I spent about three hours trying to figure it out.

Thanks,

Keith

You are talking about 2 different light bulbs in the rear. Have you pulled the buls to see if one is smoked, if you find a bad bulb, replace them in sets.

Yeah I tried new bulbs, even switched right side signal bulbs with the left side signal. All bulbs worked on left side and on the right side but only when the brakes are pressed. So that when I'm braking to make a right hand turn the rear signal light works to indicate that I'm turning but if I want to switch to the right lane without braking the rear signal light does not work.

I've been living with this prob for a while but kinda irritated as are drivers behind me I'm sure.

Sounds like a ground issue but you should give one thing a test before proceeding. I had some trouble with my turn signal and it turned out to be the relay. Go into the fuse box underneath the steering wheel and get out your manual. Look for the relays for the turn signals (they should be on the left hand side of the box and there is one for each side of the car) and swap thetwo of them. If the problem persists then its not the relay, however if the problem flips to the other side of the truck then you have found your problem. Good luck.

A problem area on some DII's is the tail light assembly, it leaks water and then the wiring corrodes.
Swap tail light left to right and see what happens.
You may need a new taillight.
Check all the simple stuff first though.
