Default D2 Transmission Fluid Change Question

I just performed my first transmission change on my 2003 D2.

Drain oil, install new filter and reinstall pan all went well with no issues.

When putting in the new oil I was not even to the end of the gallon before a steady stream started pouring out. I put the fill plug back in, started the engine and put it into each gear then shut it off. I then went back and re-checked the AB video and RAVE. Then went back and put in more. When I took off the fill plug a good stream ran out. I put more in from the second gallon all while a small stream was coming out. Not really sure how much I got in since I made a mess of things. Maybe a good gallon and 1/4. Just drove it about a block and put it into each gear and it is shifting nicely.

Should I leave it alone or try to put more in. I can't really tell how much is going in since looking fluid when taking off the fill plug, a small stream running out while I'm pumping new fluid in and the good size stream coming out after pulling the inflow tube and before the fill plug gets screwed into place.

I was hoping it was going to be more straight forward, put in almost 2 gallon and then a steady stream would start coming out. But my stream started about 3/4 for the first gallon.

Thanks

You have to fill the transmission while it's running in neutral...on a level surface.

Edit...if you were filling it while running and ran it through reverse and drive (with foot on brake), rechecked and a small stream was coming out...it should be full.

There is a specific temperature that the trans has to be at, I believe its embossed in the bottom of the pan. With engine running of course.
