Day Old Battery Completely Dead...2001 SE7
2001 Disco2 SE7
I swapped out SLS for coil, pulled the relays for the system instead of reprogramming, hasn't been an issue in the 2 years since.
I have ALWAYS heard the ABS modulator humming/buzzing/ticking. No noticeable problem as a result.
Now...brand new battery installed at 9pm, by 11 it was only starting with 5 minutes of having the negative off, inbetween. 2am, would try to turn over and then *CLICK* dead. no lights, nothing.
By 9am, completely dead. No ring around the ignition, lights, anything. I have to figure this out THIS afternoon and I don't have time to test each and every fuse. Jumped it, drove for 15min. Turned it off and try to restart, *CLICK* nothing.
Suggestions?

You need to check for a draw. Follow the directions in the Quiescent Current Draw bulliten.

If there is a draw over the allowable current then you need to check each circuit.
Pull a fuse, measure amperage across the two terminals. Do this for each fuse.

I disconnected, cleaned the terminals, and reconnected twice. Do I need to grease it?
The *CLICK* that then turns dead is what freaks me out...there's no slow drain or gradual death..just instantly nothing.

What is the CCA rated on the new battery?
Jump the truck and go up to Advanced Auto or Autozone and have them test your alternator for free. It sounds like your battery isn't charging. Is the battery light on the dash on?
Pulling the relay does not disable all of the SLS. The system will still try and open and close the air valves to lower or raise the truck (that is the clicking you hear). I was having problems with my SLS draining my battery as well. I never had a problem until I put a lift a larger tires on. I think the extra height from the lift had the height sensors always activated and the system was opening the valve trying to lower the truck. With the stock height springs and tires the system wasn't needing to adjust because the sensors were right in the middle where they needed to be. The problem went away as soon as I had the SLS turned off with the computer.

Put a light bulb in series with the battery.
use an old headlight from the pile of junk you may have.
or it may be worth buying an old headlight to use as a load.
If your battery is killing off in 10 minutes or less, you are drawing 10 or more amps.
That will light up a headlight easy.
Put the headlight in series with the negative terminal and then pull fuses until it goes out.
Then ID the circuit from the cross reference for what the fuse does.
Dusty will agree on this one.
