Dead Battery? And where to get a new one?
Duralast Gold from AutoZone, 8 year warranty, 1000 amp and 900CCA.
Made right here in West Michigan too by Johnson Controls.
I have one for going on 5 years now.
When I bought mine it was under $100.

I think Johnson Controls has more than one factory. They make a LOT of different brands. Last time I checked they even made the Wal-Mart batteries.
And having been a JCI employee back in the day when they bought Globe Union Battery, their internal statement to shareholders was that this new product area for them was a cyclical market. They expect product replacement on about a 3 year cycle. Of course, Johnson Controls does a lot of other stuff, like build York air conditioners, and complex building management systems (Metasys). But it all started with professor Johnson, who invented the thermostat... now they have about 115,000 employees, many plants in the US and other countries.
Batteries, like anything else, can be made to different specs, etc. But the main thing is don't plan on heading out on the expedition to Disney World or Borneo with a battery that you can't recall when it was changed....

I bought a battery for my Discovery II at Walmart.
Was $110 with Tax.
I would get $10 back for the old battery.
I later found out the old battery was good and sold it for $30.
I had a loose terminal from the previous
owner.

I get all of my batteries from AutoZone. You can get them with an 8 year warranty (Duralast), but it' s a little confusing. The first three years are free replacement, just take the battery in and get a brand new battery. I actually got one for free for an old work truck I had sitting around for a year without starting. The confusing part is after the first three years, that's when your 8 year starts. To complicate it even more, it becomes a sliding scale after the 8 year kicks in. As time goes on, you pay more towards a new battery.
It's so confused and confounded that they could have given me the wrong information when they explained it to me at AutoZone. But I get all of my batteries from there, including the one for my Rover and I've never had a problem (except for the one that sat around for a year not being used in NY winter and summer temps).
You can go to any of the suppliers websites, put in your make, model, and year, and they give you a list of batteries that fit.

I've had great luck with the AC Delco Installer series. I'm located close to one of their big dealers here, and have, for each of the vehicles, bought one set, and just swap them every 20 months.
They have 24 month warranty, and so far, I've warranty-replaced about 12 of them (diesels have 2...) and the manager hasn't batted an eye. It's also free.
Cheaper than a big brand, and they have never let me down.
Find a NAPA or some other pro-parts supplier, and they'll hook it up.
They work well in the forklifts too.

The was a report on NPR radio a few weeks ago about a lady in Florida who was selling her 60's era Mercury Comet, about 560,000 miles. JC Penny lifetime battery - changed for free 18 times!
Interstate sells econo power batteries. They are interstate batteries that have been out at outlets for sale that have been on the shelf for a while, they bring them back top em off and put a new sticker on them....good way to get a top quality battery at a lower price..
