Dead in the garage
Hey guys I got a 1999 Disco II that refuses to do anything. I think the security system has been tripped and it causing most of my head aches.
When I go to start the truck up I get a whirling noise from the left side of the engine bay by the battery. No clicking or turning over sounds. At that point the key gets "stuck" in the ignition and the only way to free the key is to disconnect the battery. Also when the battery is hooked up the turn indicators stay on.
A little background. The battery had been drained so I had to charge/jump it off and it tripped the alarm so the horn went off constantly until it A. timed out and shut itself off or B. broke.
Thanks for any suggestions!

I believe you may be immobilized, and it sounds like battery is still weak as well. If you can measure battery volts, it should read like 13 when no load, truck not started, etc. Turn on head lights. If volts drops below 12, you almost certainly have a dead cell, looks OK to charger but won't carry a load.
Whirring noise may be SAI air pump, and unrelated. Supposed to come on for a short time at ccold crank up.
The alarm LED on the dash may indicate your problem:
off, the LED flashes two pulses of 50 ms on, 50 ms off, every 10 seconds.

Input/Output
The LED has a dedicated signal from the BCU to indicate the status of the following:
l
Alarm armed: The LED flashes at 10 Hz with a 50:50 duty cycle for 10 seconds, after which the LED flashes 50
ms on, 2 seconds off until the state of the system changes.

Engine immobilised: If the engine is immobilised and the ignition is on, the LED is illuminated continuously. If the
engine is immobilised and the ignition is off, the LED flashes 50 ms on, 2 seconds off.

Alarm tampered: If the alarm has been triggered, the LED flashes at 10 Hz with a 50:50 duty cycle.

Handset battery low indicator: If the handset battery is low, the driver's door is open and the ignition is switched
off, the LED flashes two pulses of 50 ms on, 50 ms off, every 10 seconds.

Ok cool. Thing about it is the instrument panel doesn't light up at all. The security LED doesn't flash. This truck has sat a while and I believe my parents, who are up in age, said there was an S and a W flashing on the panel also back when this first happened?
Would getting a new battery restore the instrument panel indications? I just checked the voltage and it's sitting at 12.11V so good call on that.
