Every time I go in, they offer me a free inspection. They know they can find something on any truck if they can get it up on a rack....

Back in October, I went in to get some bulbs for the dash, and they offered me a free inspection. I was headed to the movies with the girlie, so for ****s and gigles I said "Sure". Came back after the movie and the guy had a printout that looked like the prelaunch checklist for the space shuttle. I just smiled and said "I wonder if she'll even make it home".

I guess I'll have to consider myself lucky - when I first got my Disc I ventured by the closest dealership to me to pick up some compression washers for oil changes. When I told the guys about me being new to the Rover family but, for the most part I was going to do my own maintenance, one of the service techs came into the parking lot with me and went over the whole truck with me (everything except electrical diagnostics) and said - just like any other dealer our parts are high our labor is higher but you have a nice truck, come by when you need us. I had them do my transmission fluid/filter change because I did not want to fool with it - after they put it up and pulled the cover they came and got me and went over the whole undercarriage (location of all the integrated parts and such) showed me the old filter/inside of the trans/pan. On occasion I've stopped by to ask a technical question and they just send me over to the techs.

Guess what I mean is these guys impress me as genuinely nice guys. Like they said they aren't cheap but at least they are friendly.

They either don't know what their doin, or telling storys. I replaced my stepper with a $50 airtex, and the dealer re-set the computer just fine. And not for much more than what they charged for your diagnostic fee.

What we all fail to remember is that dealers are frachises, just like a McDonalds or a Burger King.
And just like those places some will be better than others.

I figured they just wouldn't do it, I don't know though, It was one from advanced auto that was a cross reference of one that was supposed to work, so who knows? They wouldn't change the tie rod ends either cause they weren't land rover parts.

Dealers are picky, they must use only approved parts just like Burger King must only use Burger King burgers.

I am lucky that at the Volvo dealer the parts guy runs a used parts shop out of his garage.
So I go in for a new drivers sunvisor for $120 and come out with a perfectly good "new" one that I paid $40 cash for.
Pretty sweet if you ask me.
