Default Diamond plated roof rack floor :) pics inside

hey guys.

as you might have known... i've been making my own roof rack/basket... things rely picked up when i found a pre-made basket in a junkyard for 40$ and after i welded the mounts to the baske i decided i'm throw a floor on it... i was debating between steel/aluminum extruded fence or diamond plate... i still need to paint the rack but you'll get the idea...

you can tell which one i went with

Well, it looks very interesting. I would point out, however, that you have just created a very large wing. You may have unexpected results at hwy speeds. You may have noticed that other "commercial" racks have wire floors - I think there is a reason for that.

Don't worry Orville, the disco won't stay airborn too long, its too heavy.

I would be more concerned about the rack coming off of the roof, actually. Could be very unpleasant for any poor SOB behind him on the expressway....

And for the record, I'm Wilbur! GET IT RIGHT!

My thoughts exactly when I saw that diamond plate. You may want to rethink that flooring on there. I've actually never seen a rack that didn't have woven wire flooring.

You may also see a significant decrease in gas mileage as well!

I don't think you're gonna have any trouble when it's loaded, but yeah, when it's not, you're gonna get some serious lift off that thing. You should really be careful before you get it up to any real speed.

+1 cut holes in it... not only will it let the wind thru but it will give you some areas to attach things. another reason people use chicken coop flooring so they can strap stuff down to floor
