I bought a 1997 land rover discovery in rough drivable shape back in october I ended up getting them down to $1400 it was at a police auction. I thought I was getting a steal but now I am begining to wonder. It is in perfect runing shape now and I love it but here is all I had to do to it.

Paint / Minor Body work - Didnt need to be done but the old paint was faded and it looks alot better now.

Manifold replaced - needed done immediatly

Starter replaced - went bad after 3 weeks

Altenator replaced - went bad after 2 weeks

Wiring issues with tail lights - after 3 months

Fuel Pump replaced - went bad after 1 month

I think thats about it... all in all I have about 4k-4500k into it. atleast i know now that i replaced all of that stuff it is new.

Anything else I should look out for in the future with 140k miles on it? I bought it with around 136k and have already put 4k on it. I purchased it for a winter vehicle and love how these things run in the snow.

 

did you pay somebody to do the repairs? You will save a lot of money if you download the RAVE manual and try to do most repairs yourself.

 

I think you did and now you have DI that is updated. Just keep up your maintenance and you will have great fun with it.
