Default Diesel disco 2 available in the US?

Trying to talk myself into buying a Disco 2 and want an 04 so it will have the diff lock " plan is to lift it 3" and make a weekend warrior out of it" Question is if the 4.6 is going to need motor work for the head gaskets and piston sleeves. Why not find a diesel version from oversea's Is that even a possibility? Will the Land Rover diesel even pass emissions here in US, If they are available here then why don't I see them anywhere?

25 year import law..

There are TD5 swaps here in the States, but they won't pass emissions or inspection as they are not original engines and were never EPA certified for the NAS market.

But.. 4.6s are solid IF you keep care of it, and have a 180 temp thermostat. I see more 4.6s with bad oil pumps than sleeves. In fact, all of my 4.6s I've had have died from bottom end issues. I'm building 2 right now, one brand new and one with new gaskets and oil pump/timing gear.

A 180 tstat would be the 1st thing I would do to it but what about the owner s before me wouldn't it be too late to install a lower temp stat at 100k or more?

well as long as it doesn't have knocking with a 195, it should be fine.

Slipped liners and cracked blocks aren't exactly rare, but I doubt it'll happen to you if you take care of the cooling system.

As much as I'd love a TD5 Disco, for the price it would be just as expensive to get a defender.

I've seen a few TD5 conversions but you can only do these in non emmisions areas. It is illegal for sure.
