Diesel Discovery in the states
What would it take to bring a diesel powered discovery into the states? Are They available in Canada or just in Europe and UK? Never quite sure if UK is considered part of Europe. Geography is not my strong subject. Anyways, I love my Discovery but would really like a diesel.

Land Rover never imported any diesels so they never had to do a test with the EPA.
So NO ONE can import any Land Rover diesel in to the US unless it is 25 years old,,,Canada can import at 15 years old.
You can refit a diesel in to a US Land Rover it runs $15 to 18K USD.
A person did it afew years ago here and posted the cost and how he did it.

Here in the US we check for HC ,, CO ,, NOX and particuate matter.
Diesels have much less HC and CO than a gas motor but have more NOX and particuate matter than a gas motor.
In the EU and the UK they have had ultra low sulfur diesel fuel and lower diesel emissions now that the US has the new diesel fuel we can get the high tec new diesels motors.

There are areas in the US that do not check. But the areas that do check might be a problem.
Cost can be less than overhauling the V-8 if you watch your dollars. You would do well to have swapped engines - different cars to different engines - in the past. You do the work or someone $100 per hour for a job that might take 100 hours.
If you swap engines then you are doing it to have fun because economically its a money pit.

If you're looking for a diesel D1, Roverparkboys.com in Alberta Canada imports them and had a few in stock not too long ago and even have this TDI Defender, check them out.

Land Rover 90
200tdi Diesel, 5 speed Land Rover 90
1992200tdi c/w LT77 5spd
Unknown miles
2 seater
Sunroof
32-35 mpg.
Two sets ofwheels
This 90 was purchased in UK in 1999 and modified to order.
These mods included the fitting of a 1992 200 TDi engine, PAS, CSW roof & sides & the Sunroof.
All of this work was completed by High Peak 4X4 in Derbyshire UK.
The vehicle was then shipped to Nigeria, followed by Kosovo & eventually home to Canada.
I have many receipts from the previous owner showing approx $9000 worth of work carried out on the vehicle.
Unfortunately I cannot off road my daily driver, which the 90 has been for the entire time I have owned it.
After owning the 90 for 3 years, and completing a substantial rebuild on the vehicle I am now selling it on to allow myself to have a daily driver & an off roading vehicle.
